Hollywood and Other American Traditions

On December 8, participants of the English Speaking Club at Window on America in Kherson learned a lot about the American traditions of going to the movies and talked about their habits. The visitors told about their favorite films and genres, received questions that they had to ask at least three interlocutors. Sarah Rosenthal, a Peace Corps volunteer, suggested playing Mad Libs. It’s a phrasal template word game invented in the United States. One player prompts others for a list of words to substitute for blanks in a story before reading the – often comical or nonsensical – story aloud. The game is frequently played as a party game or as a pastime. The club members were divided into groups, and each received one of the texts. Although there was little preparation time, the visitors enjoyed enacting the stories obtained.
