What is your hobby, guy?

English Talk Lab participants have a wide variety of talents and special interests as evidenced during their far-ranging and fun discussion about their hobbies at the 04.06.11 meeting. The 18 people who attended talked about many of their activities, including ethnic dancing, figure skating, acting, traveling, parachuting out of airplanes, reading, playing chess, playing computer games, playing musical instruments, and learning other languages such as French – and English!
The topic generated a lively exchange of ideas as members asked each other questions and sometimes turned into discussions about the difference between a hobby and a dangerous addiction, such as gambling. Participants also had fun making others guess a hobby by demonstrating it through charades.
The word “hobby” has its own interesting background, as it evolved out of a medieval term for a child’s toy horse into a term for “a favorite pastime or avocation.”
 Participants said they enjoyed seeing each other in different perspectives by learning about the array of hidden talents, skills and adventures. Photos.
