«SpeakUp» unites: from introduction to discussions
The next meeting of the English-speaking youth club «SpeakUp» at the Window on America in Kherson brought together both regular and new participants. The event began with an introduction: everyone had the opportunity to briefly introduce themselves and their interests in the game «Find Someone Who…». In addition, the participants became acquainted with the language constructions «it is likely / it is unlikely», which help them express opinions like a real native speaker. The tasks were selected to combine learning with live communication, so the young people actively joined the discussions and helped each other.
The game «Architecture of the World» was of particular interest. During that activity, the participants had to guess famous architectural structures, determine their location, country, and name. The visitors also supplemented the answers with interesting facts about these objects. For example, the Golden Gate Bridge near San Francisco is called «de oro» (golden), although it was originally orange. The architect Irving Morrow has chosen this color because it seemed to him that the bridge would be best seen against the surrounding landscape, as well as visible to ships.
We invite young people to join the «SpeakUp» conversation club, which continues to provide space for English language skills development and live communication.
