English in the Rhythm of Bob Dylan: A «Speak Up» Conversation Club Meeting

Another meeting of the youth conversation club «Speak Up» took place at the Kherson «Window on America» center, with the main topic of music and English speaking. Participants improved their language skills through interactive activities and discussions.

The participants explored the work of Bob Dylan, the legendary American musician, songwriter, and Nobel Prize winner in Literature. Many were surprised to learn that Bob Dylan became the first musician in history to receive this award for the poetic quality of his songs. After learning more about the artist’s biography, one of the participants transformed into Bob Dylan, while the others interviewed him in an improvised role-play activity.

The next activity, «Mad Libs», brought lots of laughter and positive emotions. During the game, participants named different parts of speech – nouns, adjectives, verbs, and others – without knowing the final text. Once the blanks were filled in, the group created funny and completely unexpected stories.

The participants discussed their musical preferences during a «Speed English» activity. They talked about their favorite performers, genres, and songs. This format helps young people overcome the language barrier, speak more confidently, and express their thoughts in English more quickly.

Throughout the meeting, participants showed creativity, imagination, and supported one another. We invite young people to join the «Speak Up» club, which continues to ensure a welcoming space for developing language skills, making new friends, and communicating in English.
