As part of the Freedom 250 program, participants of the «Joy Art» studio attended the presentation «Architect of Wonders: The True Story of L. Frank Baum». During the meeting, they learned about the life and work of the author who gave the world the story of «The Wizard of Oz». Participants listened to interesting facts about the writer, watched clips from different film and cartoon adaptations, and created their own drawings of the characters — Ellie, the Tin Woodman, the Scarecrow, the Lion, and the Wizard.

One of the most interesting facts was that L. Frank Baum had his own small printing press as a child and published magazines on his own while still a teenager. The writer also loved theater very much and even wrote plays and musicals. However, this passion often brought him difficulties: actors deceived him, productions failed, and his theater burned down during a performance of «Matches».

During the creative part of the meeting, everyone imagined the fairy-tale characters in their own way: some made them bright and kind, while others portrayed them as mysterious and slightly strange. That is why all the artworks turned out so different and interesting.

«I liked that we not only listened to the story about the writer, but could also immediately create our versions of the characters. It was interesting to see how differently everyone imagines the same story», shared Veronika, a studio participant.
