Intellectual Quiz «Mind Battle» at «SpeakUp» Youth Speaking Club

In the youth English-speaking club «SpeakUp», we held an intellectual quiz called «Mind Battle». Combining English practice with logical challenges, we played four rounds: «True/False», «Hot Seat», «Think–Share–Answer», and «Crazy Numerals». There was a bit of excitement, a bit of laughter, and many moments when it felt like: «I think I’ve heard this somewhere, but I’m not sure».

In the «True/False» round, language traps were mixed with interesting facts about the world. For example, we discussed that the largest U.S. state is Alaska, not Arizona. In logical tasks, we talked about how many questions children ask every day and how even such ordinary things as spaces between words can influence reading speed.

We joined the Freedom 250 initiative, dedicated to the anniversary of the United States formation, so some questions focused on U.S. history and geography. In particular, we mentioned that George H. W. Bush was the 41st President of the United States and led the country after the Cold War end. We also talked about the town of Okay in Oklahoma, where only a few hundred people live, yet it has official city status.

The «Mind Battle» format is well received by participants, as it allows them both to recall and discover new facts that later naturally appear in real English conversations. Gradually, knowledge turns into practice, and confidence in speaking develops naturally, without extra effort.
