Why do Americans watch football on Thanksgiving
On November 25, 2018 Kherson Window on America Centre hosted a holiday meeting. The members of the English Conversation Club discussed the Thanksgiving traditions and history. Football on Thanksgiving might seem like a modern tradition, but Americans have been taking to the gridiron on Turkey Day since the 19th century. Holiday became the traditional date for the Intercollegiate Football Association championship game. The Universities of Michigan and Chicago also built a famous holiday rivalry, and by the late 1890s thousands of football games were taking place each Thanksgiving.
The members of our “New York”, “Washington” and “Florida” teams played Scrabble Game and shared their recipes for Thanksgiving dinner menu. Later they presented their football cheers and chants.
