Waiting for the August Shooting Star or English about Space

August is a month of meteor showers, so the latest meeting of the families who regularly gather at the Unbreakable Honcharivka Art Shelter focused on this fascinating natural phenomenon. Due to the security situation, we met online this time. At the beginning of the meeting, we discussed important matters concerning our upcoming sessions and agreed on how we would continue our activities.

We talked about the Perseids, a meteor shower that can be observed every August. It occurs when Earth passes through a stream of dust particles left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle. As these particles enter the atmosphere and burn up, they create bright «shooting stars». Here’s an interesting fact: the meteors appear to come from a single point in the sky, although this is actually a perspective effect.

Next, the TalkMasters English conversation club participants reviewed space-related vocabulary, learned the planets of the Solar System and their order. As usual, we reinforced what we had learned through interactive games such as True or False, Guess the Word, and Find the Odd Word.
