3D Printing: Technology Within Everyone’s Reach in Kherson Maker Space

The Maker Space at the Window on America Center in Kherson continues to welcome visitors. Established with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, it offers hands-on opportunities to explore modern technologies. One of its most popular attractions is 3D printing.

Just a few years ago, home 3D printers required constant adjustments and considerable experience to operate. Over the past five years, however, the technology has advanced dramatically. Modern printers are much faster, feature automatic calibration, produce more accurate details, support a wider range of materials, and allow even beginners to achieve excellent results on their first attempt. Today, 3D printing is widely used in education, design, medicine, engineering, and rapid prototyping.

At our Maker Space, we regularly host workshops where participants discover the capabilities of 3D printers, learn how they work, and create their very first models.

In this video, you can watch a 3D printer creating one of the most recognizable symbols of the United States - the Statue of Liberty. Here's an interesting fact: its copper skin is only about 2.4 mm (0.09 inches) thick, roughly the thickness of two coins stacked together. The statue's iconic green color is the result of the natural oxidation of copper, and this protective patina also helps shield it from corrosion.

Our Maker Space will soon be expanding with exciting new equipment. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore robotics, use a digital microscope for research and creative projects, and work with a sewing machine to bring their own ideas to life.

We invite children, teenagers, and adults to join our workshops. Whether you're curious about modern technology or have always wanted to try 3D printing, we'd be delighted to welcome you to our Maker Space!
