Calling 911: US Emergency Phone Number

The first known use of a national emergency telephone number began in the USA in 1968. When a caller dials 9-1-1, the call is routed to the local public safety answering point. Like other emergency numbers around the world, this number is intended for use in emergency circumstances only.
