Halloween or Samhain?
On the night of October 31, many countries around the world celebrate Halloween. Its roots go back to ancient Celts, to the ancient festival of Samhain. The coordinator of Window on America in Kherson told the students of Kherson State University about the history and modern traditions of this day. The attendees learned, for example, that the habit of dressing up as ghosts, monsters, and other evil spirits came from Celtic beliefs. To avoid being recognized by these ghosts, people would wear masks when they left their homes after dark so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits. Halloween is beginning to enter the lives of Ukrainians, although it is somewhat foreign. However, you can find decorated shop windows, restaurants, and cafes.
