What is Jack-o'-lanterns?

Halloween is a holiday that is considered one of the most popular in the United States. In Ukraine, Halloween has been celebrated since the 1990s. Halloween evolved from the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain and it is known for over 2000 years. The visitors of English Speaking club in Window on America Kherson talked about the history and traditions of this day. The attendees answered quiz questions, made up a «horror» story, solved the crossword puzzle and talked about the holiday in groups with Discussion cards. The most interesting (though scary!) story we've learned was the legend of Jack-o'-lanterns. The name comes from an Irish folktale about a man named Stingy Jack. It was a drunkard who bargained with Satan and was doomed to roam the Earth with only a hollowed turnip to light his way.
