Frank Baum's Fairy Tale: Theater and Magic of the «Wonderland of Oz»
May 15 was the birth of Lyman Frank Baum, an American writer who created one of the most famous fairy tales in world literature. It was his «Wizard of Oz» that became a work that has been read for over a century, but it still does not seem outdated today.
Baum's novel is not only about the adventures of Ellie, the Scarecrow, the Lion, or the Tin Woodman. It is a story about finding oneself, about doubts, fears, and the desire to become better. The heroes set out to look for what they supposedly lack, but discover what is already inside them.
Interestingly, Baum himself did not come to literature right away. He worked in various fields, doing theater and journalism, before creating his own magical world. Perhaps that is why his stories remain so alive - they have both fantasy and very human experiences.
Today is a good opportunity to rediscover The Wizard of Oz and reread the familiar tale. In the coming days, as part of the One Book Photo Project, we will publish photos dedicated to the places of moments and works of the characters, and expand the meaning of this extraordinary tale for you.
