Victory Day
Of course, the meeting of the talk club English for Everyone on 07.05.2011 was dedicated to Victory Day. Companions of the talk club had much to share with one another and our American friends. Regardless of the fact that most of the participants of the club were quite young, they cherish and pass on the recollections and stories of their elder relatives that lived through those terrible four years. The American volunteers listened with great interest about living episodes that were protected in the memories of military years, while everything that they heard was completely new to them. They had never heard about those horrendous things that happened in that area during the time of war. For the American people, the 2nd World War was very different. At the end of the meeting, two of the oldest participants of the club summoned everyone to never forget what their grandfathers and greatgrandfathers did for them. Photo.

Hello,
The Victory Day Talk Lab discussion was very interesting and valuable for both the Americans and the Ukrainians present.
The information that we Americans, myself, Barbara and Michael, heard was very interesting because it was about the people and their feelings. It was not, however, the first time we heard about the war nor the stories of war from the Ukrainian perspective.
Nothing that we heard was completely new to us. We had heard before about the horrendous things that happened during the war to Ukrainians. We studied about the war in our Amrican schools and in preparation to coming to Ukraine.
The feelings conveyed by myself about the war was that all countries suffered, all peoples suffered during World War II. The differences which we discussed was that the war was not fought on American ground. But we did not feel that the pain, the sorrow, the sadness for Americans was extremely different than the pain and sorrow felt by the Ukrainians.
Please be careful in writing summaries about the Talk Lab and in conveying details and feelings from each side of the world.
Thank you, Deborah Garofalo, Leader, Talk Lab, Gunshara Library
