Web accessibility as the norm: participation in the scientific and practical seminar of Karazin Kharkiv National University

A librarian of the Oles Honchar Kherson Regional Universal Scientific Library joined the scientific and practical seminar «Inclusive Practices in Libraries», organized by Karazin Kharkiv National University. The event was held in a mixed format and aimed at discussing modern approaches to the formation of a barrier-free educational and cultural environment.

The seminar included a presentation, «From Access to Inclusion: Inclusivity as a Standard of a Modern Library Website». We emphasized that web accessibility today is not an additional option, but a basic requirement for digital resources of educational and cultural institutions. Access to information should be provided to all users, regardless of their capabilities or technical conditions.

Particular attention was paid to the principles of web accessibility (acceptability, manageability, clarity, and reliability), as well as practical steps that educators and cultural workers can implement when administering their sites. Inclusion involves a transition from formal provision of access to real user involvement.

We are grateful for the invitation to participate in the seminar, which contributed to the exchange of experience, updating knowledge, and finding effective solutions for the development of a barrier-free library space.
