We Have Rights
Every year the world celebrates Human Rights Day. In 1948, the UN General Assembly proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It was the first international document to declare the fundamental rights and freedoms of every individual. The members of the Speaking club at Window on America in Kherson discussed this important topic. They concluded that the Ukrainian government observes human rights much better than in many other countries. In our present situation of military conflict, this fact becomes even more weighty in such areas as freedom of speech, freedom of voting, freedom of movement, lack of censorship. We thank the club's facilitators, Svetlana Zorina and Tom Laughlin, for the opportunity to improve our speaking skills and for the opportunity to compare our rights with those of American citizens.
